A tiny terrier with a huge belly was stuck in an overcrowded rural Kentucky shelter and waited for help. The shelter had too many dogs at the moment but they had to do something.
Luckily, the vets from the Kentucky Humane Society heard about the mama in need and rushed t help. They were just in time and the huge litter was ready to arrive. The dog now named Momma Malone assessed by a team of vets, decided that it seemed like the pup need to give birth via C-section.
Dr Emily Bewley who delivered the puppies was so excited but concerned. They were so grateful that the dog mom came to the Kentucky Humane Society so that she could safely deliver her pups.
Momma Malone stayed the final days of her pregnancy at Dr Bewley’s home. She knew the puppies are on the way and made sure that all of the vet staff were ready to help to deliver them safely.
On the way to the shelter, her son sat with her on the back to comfort the mom. In the meantime, the vet team was getting ready because they knew that there will be a lot of puppies coming soon. Once they arrived at the shelter, the surgery took only 20 minutes.
Usually, small dogs give birth to about two to five puppies. But Momma Malone had given birth to nine puppies. The vets worried that Momma Malone might have trouble connecting with her puppies but finally there was no trouble at all. She loved her baby gang. It seems like she is taking god care of everybody.
Until March she and her pup will be there at the shelter. After that, they will be ready to search for their permanent homes.
