A few days before the mahout’s death, his health took a turn for the worse. Right before he passed away, when Rajesh had paid him a visit, Damodaran had told him that he wanted to see his favorite elephant one last time. Even though the devout mahout took his last breath before his wish came true, his elephant son made it his mission to travel the 15 miles, and did so within 2 hours, to pay his respects at his funeral. After paying his respects, the elephant stood in front of the verandah, and raised his trunk twice. It was after this that Rajesh came over and patted his head.
