Christmas has always been Luna’s favorite season, even when she was just a kitten. Luna is now 17 years old.
“[She’s] usually hovering around the tree, inquisitive about the ornaments,” Luna’s mother, Shawn Meyer, said in an interview. “She never attacks the tree.”
Every year, Luna enjoys exploring and appreciating the Christmas decorations, especially the Christmas lights. She’s always been a little infatuated with the lights, and it breaks her heart every year when her parents take them down.
“She would gaze at us as we put things away, as if she didn’t understand why we had to do it,” Meyer explained.
Luna is already in her golden years, and it’s difficult to say how many Christmases she has left, so her parents decided to do something special for her to make it seem like Christmas all year.
Luna has a particular cat tree with branches and leaves that flow through it, which her parents discovered was the ideal spot to hang some permanent Christmas lights.
“The decision to permanently install lights was made on the spur of the moment,” Meyer explained. “We received the rainbow curtain lights as a present, but we don’t have any curtains. After some thought, I determined we had the ideal spot for them where they will be appreciated.”
While Luna slept elsewhere, her parents transformed her cat tree into the most wonderful spot imaginable — and when she awoke, she was overjoyed with what she saw.
“Because she is deaf, she slept through the whole installation of the new lights,” Meyer explained. “It was a complete surprise to her. And she appeared to be happy!”
Luna appeared ecstatic that she could enjoy Christmas all year, and her cat tree was clearly her favorite place to be.
“We’ve given her every bit of happiness and comfort we could think of, and she virtually lives in the tree now,” Meyer explained. “She actually prefers to eat her meals in there.”
Meyer couldn’t help but imagine a fantastic scenario in her brain about a senior cat that loves Christmas so much that some magical fairies transformed her cat tree into a dazzling wonderland as she watched Luna in her tree. She shared her story on Facebook and is even working on a children’s book about Luna and her miraculous tree.
Luna is older and understands precisely what she wants, and she’s overjoyed that she can do her favorite thing in the world anytime she wants.
