If you just look at a stray dog, it’s hard to know their story, and where they come from, but according to Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, there’s one have one heartbreaking thing in common in dogs that have been abandoned. Hall says in an interview: “The ones who are lost will roam and roam for months. The ones who are dumped just stay there and wait.”
Thunder was a dog that was abandoned by his owners, and was spotted waiting for them by the same fire hydrant, day after day. Neighbors had tried to trap the poor soul, but after numerous unsuccessful trys, they called on Hall to help in rescuing him. When Hall arrived, and even with her years of experience and equipment, the pup was too scared to accept the help. Hall goes on to say, “He wanted to trust so badly. He wanted to get close to me, but he was just too scared.”
Although Hall set a humane trap with snacks, the pup was still unsure, and Hall adds: “He would go over across the street and look, and then go back to the fire hydrant.” Even as the hours passed, and day turned into night, the woman didn’t back down in trying to rescue Thunder, so she came up with a more enticing bite. After going to the nearest 7-Eleven, she bought a few hotdogs and put them in the trap.
She goes on to add: “I drove down the street to make him think I [wasn’t] there anymore and when I came back, he was finally in the trap. The hotdogs did the trick.” Although relieved to have the pup finally in her care, she noticed that he was desperately trying to get back to the fire hydrant, and sit and wait for the family that was never going to come back. Hall also goes on to say: “The little bit of love he got from his family, he remembered. I just think he didn’t want to leave in case they came back.”
However, Thunder was rescued in the nick of time. According to the founder of Logan’s Legacy, the neighborhood where Thunder was found was hit with the strongest storm they had gotten in years. If the rescue had been even 5 minutes later, the frightened dog and his rescuer would have been soaking wet in the torrential downpour. Hall adds: “We named him Thunder because we had the worst thunderstorm after I drove away. It was so scary.”
However, Hall still hasn’t found out who had abandoned Thunder, and why they did so, but she believes now, it’s even more important to be focusing on the amazing life that will be given to Thunder, now that he is rescued. Finally, Hall adds: “My favorite noise is when the trap door shuts. Because it’s closing the past and [marking] a new future for the dog.”
Thunder is receiving the vet care he needs, like all the animals who are rescued by Logan’s Legacy. After the vet clears him, Thunder can be placed into a loving forever home. The pup will soon be up for adoption, and he will finally find a family that is actually loyal to him, as he is to them.
