How would you feel if you woke up in a different world where everything around you was not familiar? Wouldn’t it be terrifying? Well, as it so happens, this occurrence is high with many wild animals with habitat loss as a result of infrastructure advancement. Although for humans, it only takes minutes to travel on a highway for long distances, for wild animals, crossing one is deadly, as we’ve seen time and time again. This in fact rings true to the slowest animal on the planet.
A young sloth was frightened and was in the middle of the road, and because of the kindness of a cop, the tiny animal got a second chance at life. Being known for their slowness, and usually spending most of their lives hanging upside down in tropical rain forests, sloths are South America’s native mammals. Because of this, when the little guy was stranded in the middle of a highway in Quevedo, central Ecuador, it got frightened.
As several people who had seen the tiny animal contacted the local police, they arrived at the scene for the most adorable rescue mission. When the little one saw the officers, it realized that they wanted to help him and was as cooperative as could be, keeping a positive attitude the entire time.
When the tiny sloth was rescued, it was immediately taken to the local vet to be checked out. As everything was fine with the young one, it was soon released into the wild where it belonged. The police had this to share on Facebook: “We want to let you know the sloth was rescued and taken by officers to a vet who said it was in a good condition to be returned to its habitat.”
Whatever happened, and even though it’s a happy ending, we need to ask the question; why was the little one trying to cross the road in the first place?
