The Adorable Golden Retriever Is The First To Celebrate 20 Year Birthday

We all know that there are many dog breeds in the world. But there should be at least one dog breed that you like most. Personally, my favorite is German shepherd because I love their majestic look. But I know there are zillions of people who love Golden Retrievers more than anything else because of their cute, adorable look and their friendly character.

Here’s a long journey of a Golden Retriever who celebrated his 20th birthday recently.

August, the Golden Retriever who turned 20 years old

August or for short Augie born on 24 April 2000. This fur buddy was rehomed twice and finally found her home in Oakland, Tennessee. She’s spending her life happily with her loyal human companions, Jennifer and Steve. Augie is the oldest Golden Retriever dog, according to GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue.

The couple adopted Augie when she was 14 years old, knowing that she’s not going to live long.  Because the average life span of a dog is 10-14 years, yet, they chose Augie as their pet.

I’m pretty sure they didn’t know by then than Augie would live another 6+ healthy years with them to become the oldest Golden Retriever.

Augie is known to be the oldest Golden Retriever

GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue shared Augie’s 20th birthday celebration on Facebook. It got 16,000 reactions along with 11,000 comments, mostly congratulatory, and 23,000 shares. She spent her special day with Jennifer and Steve and three others siblings in own kind, Sherman, Belle, and Bruce.

A huge banner was printed, and carrot cake, along with more food, made the party pretty awesome. Jennifer says that Augie is healthy enough though she is 20 years old. She shakes a bit when she tries to get up. Apart from that, she walks daily in the yard.

People around the world shared their blessings with Augie

Augie was diagnosed with kidney failure when she was 14. So, she is taking a mixture of wet and dry food as health precautions.

“There are many accounts of 17 or 18-year-old goldens, and even a few stories about 19-year-old goldens, but Augie is the first golden retriever to ever reach the big two-oh,” GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue said in a dedicated article to Augie.

As the aversage life span of a dog is 12 years, Augie is quite impressive

If you want to sink in the age of Augie, 2000 was the year Bill Clinton was the president, the year Sony released PlayStation 2 in Japan, and it was the year blockbuster movies like Gladiator and X-Men were released. Feel old?

A perfect day with two loyal human companions, three fur buddies and carrot cake.

The GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue shares some essential tips to make sure to keep any dog safe and healthy.

  1. Listen to the veterinarian because he/she gives the best recommendations for your pet.
  2. Listen to your dog. If you are a real dog lover, you’d understand even a slight change in your pet. So, if he/she doesn’t eat or look active, it’d be better if you pay attention.
  3. Always give healthy food for your dog. Would you give junk food to your child? I guess not. Treat your dog in the same way.
  4. Groom your pet regularly. By doing so, you will be able to identify any ear of skin infections.
  5. Exercise your dog daily to make him/her healthy and strong.
