Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay recently experienced a harrowing biking accident that left him with significant bruises. Over Father’s Day weekend, Ramsay took to social media to emphasize the life-saving importance of wearing a helmet.
The Hell’s Kitchen star described the alarming incident, which required medical attention, saying he felt “fortunate to be here.”
“With #FathersDay tomorrow, I have an important message for all the dads out there…WEAR A HELMET!” Ramsay captioned his post, alongside a photo showing a sizable bruise.
“This week, I had a serious accident while biking in Connecticut. Thankfully, I didn’t break any bones or sustain major injuries, but I’m definitely bruised and battered—looking like a purple potato,” he shared.
Ramsay expressed his gratitude for the medical team at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, who provided him with care, and gave special thanks to his helmet. “It saved my life. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Father’s Day. Gx,” he added.
In a follow-up video, Ramsay stressed, “The doctors, nurses, and surgeons were amazing. But seriously, always wear a helmet. No matter how short the trip or how much a helmet costs—it’s essential. Even for a quick ride with the kids, make sure they wear a helmet too.”
