Donald Trump Responds After Charlie Kirk Shot During Utah Event

Charlie Kirk, CEO and co-founder of conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was shot during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10.

The incident took place at the Sorensen Center courtyard, where Kirk was addressing attendees under a white tent decorated with banners reading “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.” Videos circulating online show Kirk holding a microphone when a single gunshot rang out. He immediately reached for his neck as the stunned audience gasped and scattered in panic.

According to campus police, the shooting occurred at approximately 12:10 p.m. local time. Kirk was struck and quickly removed from the scene by his security team. Authorities confirmed that a suspect has since been taken into custody.

Former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz, who was present, described hearing one shot and seeing Kirk recoil. He noted the limited security presence at the event, adding: “Utah is one of the safest places on the planet, and so we just don’t have these types of things.”

Turning Point USA spokesperson Aubrey Laitsch confirmed the shooting, saying the organization is “praying for Charlie.”

Reactions poured in quickly. President Donald Trump addressed the attack on Truth Social, writing: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

Vice President JD Vance also expressed his support, urging: “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.”

Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox strongly condemned the act of violence, stating: “Those responsible will be held fully accountable. Violence has no place in our public life. Americans of every political persuasion must unite in condemning this act. Our prayers are with Charlie, his family, and all those affected.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
