Kirk Cameron never set out to be an actor. As a child, his ambitions were far from Hollywood; he dreamed of becoming a doctor. But a casual suggestion from a family friend led his mother to take him to an audition — a moment that would change his life.
His earliest work came in television commercials, including a spot for McDonald’s. Soon, acting offers began rolling in, eventually leading him to the role that made him a household name: Mike Seaver on the hit sitcom Growing Pains.
By the late 1980s, Cameron was everywhere — gracing magazine covers, adored by millions of teenage fans, and firmly established as one of the decade’s biggest young stars.

He explained that the state no longer reflected the values he wanted for his family. When he asked followers where they would recommend moving, Tennessee, Florida, and Texas topped the list.
Cameron ultimately chose Tennessee, where three of his children already lived. The slower pace of life, stronger sense of community, and what he described as a “healthy freedom mindset” made it feel like home.
