Four teenage friends—Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, Wilf Henderson, and Hugo Morris—set out on a camping adventure in Snowdonia, North Wales, last weekend, anticipating a joyous time together. However, the trip took a tragic turn.
Departing on Sunday morning with plans to return the next day, the families grew concerned when they failed to hear from the boys after several hours, prompting them to contact the police. A missing person report was swiftly filed, leading authorities to launch an extensive search in the woodland area.
Helicopters, Coast Guard personnel, and mountain rescue teams joined the search efforts. After 48 agonizing hours, the authorities discovered the lifeless bodies of the four teens trapped inside an overturned car partially submerged in water.
“At present, this appears to have been a tragic accident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the four young men at this very difficult time,” stated a member of the police forces.
The vehicle the boys were travelling in had veered off the road in a village called Gareg.
The news left their families devastated. Crystal, Owen’s mother, expressed her heartbreak on Facebook, stating, “I feel like I’m in a nightmare I wish I could wake up from, but I’m not.” She mentioned closing her business temporarily, unable to focus on work when her son is no longer alive.
Crystal revealed that Owen had planned to spend the night at a friend’s house, unaware of the boys’ camping trip. She asserted that she would have prohibited him from going due to the winter weather if she had known about his plans.
Lisa Corfield, Henderson’s girlfriend’s mother, shared memories of the boys, stating, “They are not experienced campers. They have never been there before. [They] were just going for the night, so have a tent and sleeping bags but only the basics.” She posted a photo of Henderson and her daughter on Facebook, describing him as a “lovely kind young lad” who treated her daughter with utmost respect.
Condolences and tributes flooded in for the grieving families during this difficult time. The families are still grappling with the details of the incident and the heartbreaking reality that their boys are no longer alive.
Our deepest sympathies go out to them during these tragic losses.
